Honda
proves that an engine can be extremely powerful and fuel efficient
at the same time - all it takes is innovative technology like Honda
VTEC 3 (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control)
The Civic
powerplant is available in three variations that deliver
class-leading performance by way of precedent-setting features.
Honda's powerful 1.6- liter engine generates quick acceleration via
Three-stage VTEC - the breakthrough technology that boosts power and
fuel efficiency by varying the behavior of the intake valves to
match the needs of the engine. Also available are advanced 1.5-liter.
All these configurations drive 4-valves-per-cylinder through Honda's
innovative single overhead camshaft (SOHC) design.
The Civic's smooth,
spirited response is the result of ample horsepower and
extra-generous torque in the low-to-mid rpm range. By carefully
tuning the way the engines breathe, Honda has flattened the torque
curve to achieve ultra-smooth acceleration.
Honda's
philosophy of automotive design has always been to maximize space
for passengers and minimize space for mechanisms. Accumulated
effort has led to new Civic packaging with a forward cabin and an
innovative flat rear floor, made possible by rerouting chassis
components, which provides extra stretch room and greater ease of movement. The
Civic's space-efficient design also enabled a
large-capacity trunk, which features a wide opening for simplified
loading and unloading of heavy luggage.
